About…

I don’t know how I got the travel bug. In fact, when I think about it, I grew up in a perfectly normal family with your typical Spanish-costa-pool-and-beach-holiday. Not that there’s anything wrong with those types of vacations, but you can hardly call them off the beaten track.

The signs were always there though, I think, fully liberated when I caused a family-wide crisis by announcing I’d was about to travel through Croatia only a year after the civil war. I was eightteen then and my parents were consulting Foreign Affairs behind my back out of concern for their son.

Ever since, I’ve been ‘en route’…

Travel is my biggest passion. I have others as well, naturally, and luckily they combine very well with travel: cooking, music, languages, art & culture.

Politics interest me as well, a side-effect of my history studies, without doubt, and often fuel my curiosity about places and people.

The strangest thing is, while people often call me the adventurer or explorer, I hardly think so myself and find myself gazing in awe at other people who embark on global trips or daring adventures.

After all, even travel is in the eye of the beholder, and so should this blog be read as well. I try to share my viewpoints, experiences and knowledge, but in the end, they are just what they are: mine.

Other things might work just as well for you, and that’s just fine. Everyone needs to find their own path in life, and you rarely find it by copying others.

I hope you enjoy this blog and look forward hearing your remarks and comments,

yours truly,

Bart
